Kitchen design trends 2024

In the ever-changing world of interior design, it’s essential to stay ahead of trends and anticipate future developments. As a visionary designer based in Greater Montreal, I’ve always been keen to bring a fresh, innovative approach to my projects. My work has been widely recognized and featured in numerous

1st kitchen trend in 2024: Apricot-colored cooking and terracotta

A surprising hue has appeared on the palette of interior designers specializing in kitchens: apricot, complemented by the rustic charm of terracotta. Color agencies have unveiled bold yet soothing shades. Apricot, beautifully combined with shades of pink, orange or red, evokes a soft Mediterranean warmth. For wood lovers, the light color harmonizes divinely with these fruity hues. And, in case you’re wondering, I’m betting heavily that apricot or terracotta will be the color of the year in 2024.

But let’s talk about the real comeback of terracotta. On a recent visit to Ceragres, I learned some exciting news: they plan to introduce real terracotta in 2024! What a pleasure for any designer looking for authentic, timeless materials! Although terracotta traditionally evokes a Mediterranean decor, I can’t wait to see how my fellow interior designers in Montreal and the Greater Montreal area adapt it to our Quebec interiors.

As for apricot, this invigorating color reminds us that we should all be more daring when it comes to interior design. Why not bring more color and natural influences into our spaces? If you’re ready to take the plunge, but don’t know where to start, our team of interior designers is here to guide you. We serve Greater Montreal and many other regions of Quebec, not to mention our international projects in Europe and the United States. We look forward to your challenges!

2nd kitchen trend in 2024: The white monochrome kitchen with a play of textures

White kitchens are nothing new. For many years, it has been at the top of interior design trends, not only for its versatility, but also for its timelessness. It lends itself to every style, from modern to farmhouse to classic. His popularity has never waned.

However, 2024 marks a significant change in this trend. While white remains dominant, it’s the interplay of textures that breathes new life into it. Interior designers, and kitchen designers in particular, are seduced by this innovative approach, which offers them a real creative playground. It’s a great option for anyone looking to add a new dimension to their kitchen space without straying from the reassuring neutrality of white.

In concrete terms, this translates into a variety of finishes and materials. Think slim shaker-style cabinet doors, juxtaposed with others in wainscoting or adorned with fluted wood strips. The islands, meanwhile, adopt rounded shapes or are even clad in white tiles for a vintage effect. The white ceramic top is also in the spotlight, as are matte fixtures, hardware and even faucets. The trick is to keep the color white as a base, while playing with reliefs and materials to create dynamism.

The layout is enhanced by touches such as furniture in plush curly fabric, offering a cozy feel. This bold blend of styles, encouraged and appreciated by interior designers, results in so-called “cameo” kitchens, where the variety of textures and shapes creates visual harmony.

The resulting atmosphere is simply spellbinding. The all-white 2024 kitchens evoke youth, freshness and elegance. They offer an enveloping, comfortable haven, even flirting with the concept of cocooning. Who wouldn’t love to bask in the comfort of a contemporary kitchen?

3rd kitchen trend in 2024: Nature as backdrop

Nature has always been a source of inspiration in interior design, especially for a Montreal interior designer like me, who cherishes every moment spent outdoors. After my last trip to the Gaspé, I asked myself: why do we confine ourselves to barren spaces, when nature offers us so much energy and well-being? Perhaps the answer to this question is trend 2024: large windows that transform the outdoor landscape into a veritable work of art for our interiors.

The era of imitation forest wallpaper is over. Today’s designers want something real, something tangible. As an experienced designer, I can tell you that there’s no substitute for a breathtaking view of nature.

From large windows in the living room, backsplash windows in the kitchen, or skylights to flood the house with light, the watchword is to bring the outside in closer to our interiors. Of course, if you’re renovating a house from the 90s, fitting such windows can be a challenge. But for new buildings, it’s an unavoidable trend.

Following this philosophy, why not consider an indoor garden? The possibilities are endless, and with the help of a good interior designer, your home can become a natural sanctuary.

4th kitchen trend in 2024: Countertop edging with details

In the fascinating world of interior design, details count. What I’ve observed, through my research and visits to international trade shows, is a growing interest in the meticulous detail of counter edges. In the past, the norm was to choose a single color or pattern for a countertop and deploy it uniformly. But times have changed.

Countertop choices are now bolder and more varied. Popular materials such as quartz, dekton and natural stone are still in vogue. However, there has been a notable evolution in the patterns and shades sought. Interior designers, including kitchen designers, are particularly attracted by highly marbled patterns in warm hues. Gone is the minimalist white quartz with slight grooves reminiscent of grey marble. Current trends reveal a preference for bold veins, intricate patterns and colors that evoke warmth and conviviality.

Innovations include concave edges, fully rounded profiles, triple rounding, and various moldings with molding details. These bold edge design choices add character and depth to kitchen spaces, transforming a simple worktop into a true work of art.

Ultimately, countertops are no longer simply functional surfaces; they become a central element of kitchen design, bringing aesthetics, texture and personality to the room as a whole.

5th kitchen trend in 2024: The all-wood kitchen

In the vast field of interior design, trends come and go like fashion, but always return in reinvented form. Right now, I’m seeing a renaissance of wood in kitchens, and not just for a few elements or subtle touches. Interior designers, and kitchen designers in particular, are increasingly turning to solid wood cabinetry.

This trend, bold as it may seem, is beautiful when well executed. Imagine a large wall of all-wood cabinets in a vast, open-plan home. Far from shrinking the space, it actually makes it warmer, more enveloping and welcoming. It’s a bold choice that requires a certain amount of design expertise, because the impact goes far beyond mere aesthetics. It influences the atmosphere of the home, the feelings of the occupants and their lifestyle.

The essence of this trend is a wall of wood-finish cabinets. However, to avoid overloading the design, it’s crucial to opt for uncluttered cabinet doors, highlighting the natural beauty of wood. The shades available for this type of design range from a bright, soft bleached oak effect, to a rich caramel-colored wood, and even to deep chocolate brown. The key is to balance the imposing wooden wall with more sober elements, whether in the choice of other cabinets, worktops or accessories.

In design, it’s essential to balance “wow” elements with more discreet ones that serve to highlight the centerpiece. This large wall of wooden cabinets is inspired in part by the mid-century style, which we’ll explore in greater depth in the next section.

6th kitchen trend in 2024: Mid-century style

In 2018, the big trend was the glossy modern kitchen. In 2019, it was the two-tone kitchen. From 2020 to 2022, the farmhouse style dominated. This year, mid-century is set to boom in our interiors.

Mid-century, a veritable ode to the 50s and 60s, is making an impressive resurgence in contemporary kitchen designs. But what exactly is mid-century? Born of a time when modernism met organic motifs, this style is characterized by clean lines, bold shapes and natural materials. Warm woods, elegant metals and vibrant colors like turquoise, burnt orange and olive green dominate this palette.

In 2024, expect to see this style manifested in innovative ways. Think teak or walnut cabinet doors, polished brass handles, geometrically patterned ceramic tiles for backsplashes and terrazzo worktops. This, combined with modern appliances and elegant lighting fixtures, adds a contemporary touch to the vintage style.

Integrating a mid-century style kitchen into a 2024 interior creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Natural colors and materials evoke a sense of comfort, while bold patterns and metallic accents inject invigorating energy. This blend of past and present creates a space where nostalgia meets modernity, offering the best of both worlds.

The ambience created by a mid-century kitchen is unique: it evokes both the comforting familiarity of a bygone era and the excitement of contemporary design. It’s a space that invites conviviality, relaxation and appreciation of the art of interior design. For anyone looking to add a timeless touch to their space while remaining resolutely modern, mid-century style is the perfect choice.

When we look at kitchen trends for 2024, we see a harmonious blend of boldness and tradition. From the emergence of vibrant colors like apricot and terracotta, to the adoption of monochromatic white design accented by a variety of textures, to the return in force of wood and mid-century style, the year ahead promises to be rich in diversity. The common thread? A desire for naturalness, authenticity and comfort. Kitchens are no longer just functional spaces, they are becoming living spaces, refuges where design and aesthetics play an essential role.
